IN THE BEGINNING… THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, AUGUST 16, 2011
ONE NEW MAN
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity , even the law of commandments in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace” (Ephesians 2:15).
So many expect to achieve what is called the American Dream—the idea that in America one can develop one’s talents and employ them to full potential, thereby being rewarded with nice cars and homes, vacations and things. But for the children of God, we must know that God has a dream, a design, a purpose, a plan. It is unfolding day by day, moment by moment-- it is a dream of souls and of salvation: “the harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few” (Matthew 9:38). It is a dream of unity, the making of the one new man, where grace blossoms in the earth, where “there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). God’s dream is that his children live through the Spirit: “For as many that are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
Today, let us pray for unity and the bond of peace.
