IN THE BEGINNING…THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, July 1, 2011
THE LOVE OF GOD

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
                                                                                          Romans 8:38, 39
Look at the quality of the love of God as described in these two verses.  Regardless of the condition, the love God does not change.  Apostle Paul is persuaded of the unconditional quality of God’s love: through death and life, through goodness and wickedness, through the present and future, through heights(ups) and depths(downs), through any and every created thing-- God’s love remains connected to his child.  In other words, God cleaves!  This must be why he expects this of his offspring: like father, like son.  Indeed, we are told in the latter portion of this passage that this quality of love is in his son, Christ Jesus. Yes, this cleaving nature is seen in God’s son, which is why our salvation is sure.  Christ cleaves to his church making him the perfect husband.  Interestingly, the Christian marriage vows are designed in the same manner and quality as this passage in Romans: through sickness and health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse.  God expects all of his children to cultivate and walk in the love of God.   Today, let us pray against the tendency to be weak in heart and spirit, and let us pray for the capacity to cleave in and through every situation.
