FREED TO REST

IN THE BEGINNING …THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JULY 4, 2011
FREED TO REST
There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.   Hebrews 4:9-11

The concept of Sabbath is quite powerful.  God calls his chosen children to set apart a day to rest from their work.  The children of Israel had to make many preparations for their Sabbath, and still do.  They must labor to enter into their rest—often preparing the home and the Sabbath meal in advance.  In like manner, the children of God under the new covenant have a rest set aside for them—for you. Today, the Spirit of God desires for you to enter in to His Rest.  He desires for you to have a life marked and made, designed and characterized by his Spirit.  If you will, He desires for you believe in the Love of God for you, until it comforts you and lures you into a life of more abundance.  Like the promised  land flowing with milk and honey that God had for the children of Israel, The Spirit has a land of abundant life for you.  I Corinthians 2:9 says that “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”  “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God:  that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.”  Today, God’s rest is freely given to you.  Let us cease from our own works and enter in.
