THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, MAY, 23, 2013

THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. I Corinthians 11:24

In the breaking of the bread in the ordinance of communion, we remember that Christ gave his body for the life of the Church.  The Church then becomes the body of Christ full of believers who must "break" to enter in.  We break our hearts as we confess our sins.  We break out of our comfort zones as we lay down our lives and our wills.  We break our isolated ways and move into fellowship with other believers.  We break pride, as we esteem others above ourselves. Yes, in order to have communion with the body of Christ we must humble ourselves and "break."  Are you having trouble entering into the body?  Do you find yourself not fitting into the Church?  Break, like the One "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:6-8).

Today, as members of the body, let us be willing to be broken...in remembrance of Him.
