CLOTHED WITH THE SPIRIT

CLOTHED WITH THE SPIRIT
IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JANUARY 11, 2012

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.  2Corinthians 5:2,3

God desires to clothe us with His Spirit.  And we must be clothed with His Spirit to live with Him, both now and in eternity.  At his coming, we don't want to be found naked--without that wedding garment--unprepared for the festivities.  In the parable of the wedding feast found in Matthew 22, a king makes a wedding feast for his son.  He has his servants go out to the highways and byways to call as many as would come.  However, there is a man who decides to come, but does not have a garment prepared.  "And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not a wedding garment:  and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment?  And he was speechless.  Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away , and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  For many are called but few are chosen"( Matthew 22: 11-14 ).

This business of being clothed with the Spirit of God is serious business.  For no flesh will glory in God's presence.  Yes, Jesus is returning as a thief in the night and he warns:  "Behold, I come as a thief, Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

We must turn our gaze toward heaven, and mind not earthly things.  We must begin to lay up treasure for ourselves in heaven through good works done in and through the Spirit of God.  We must ask counsel of the Lord, as we move in His Spirit--knowing that he will crush our enemies and put  gladness in our heart (read Psalm 4:7).

Today, let us be clothed with our heavenly garment.
