A FRUITFUL VINE

 A FRUITFUL VINE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, DECEMBER 30, 2011

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house:  thy children like olive plants round about thy table.  Psalm 128:3
in me
The church of God is the bride of Christ, married, in perfect union with Christ Jesus.  So what it the result of this wonderful union?  Fruitfulness.  Jesus states:

I am the vine, ye are the branches; He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth  forth much fruit:  for without me ye can do nothing.  John 15;5

This productivity occurs as we stay connected to the Word.  And just as Hannah asked for Samuel, we must ask for good works that will produce good fruit that will bring glory to God; we must pray to be raised from our impotent state.    As we believe  and receive all that the Lord has for us, we will be like Mary whose fruitfulness caused her to proclaim:
My soul doth magnify the Lord,  And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.  For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.  For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.  And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.  He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.  He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.  He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.  He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
 Luke 1:46-55

Indeed, the fruitfulness of our union with Christ requires that we ask; for life in God flows through the channel of prayer:
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15:7

Today, let us rejoice, for he that is mighty hath done to me great things!
