BE WILLING TO COMMUNICATE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 18, 2012

BE WILLING TO COMMUNICATE

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16

To communicate is to open oneself to another; it means to share one's thoughts, feelings, resources, wisdom, ideas, time, strength  and even weakness. We can inspire another person when we communicate with them, or we can show sympathy.  When we communicate we are moving in the highest levels of relational love; we are moving in the realm of friendship.  Jesus defined friendship in this manner:  " Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you" (John 15:15).  Jesus communicated with those he considered friends.  As the body of Christ, we must be willing to move in to the highest realms of relational love; we must be willing to be friends; we must be willing to communicate-- to listen and to share.

No doubt, communication is a sacrifice of time, effort, autonomy-- but it is worth the sacrifice. How thankful I am when my first-born son calls; just hearing his voice and  listening to his thoughts and plans allows me to give thanks for the friendship we have in Christ Jesus.  And, too, the communication I share with my father is heart-warming.  I lift up my voice in praise to God for the time I have to communicate with Dad.  What a blessing from my Heavenly Father to have an open and loving relationship with my earthly father.

Today, let us be willing to communicate!
