DAUGHTERS OF SARAH

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 29, 2012

DAUGHTERS OF SARAH

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. I Peter 3:1-6

As we live by faith, we will see that God's grace is sufficient for every task and for every season.  Sarah had respect for  Abraham, because she had respect for God. The daughters of Sarah must have respect for their husbands, because we trust in God.  We must see our husband through eyes of grace, with eyes of faith...calling him lord.  Then shall we submit to our husband's authority, as unto the Lord, with a meek and quiet spirit.

Today, let us be the daughters of Sarah.

MADE TO BE A BLESSING

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 27, 2012

MADE TO BE A BLESSING

And I will make of you a great nation, blessing you and making your name great; and you will be a blessing:
To them who are good to you will I give blessing, and on him who does you wrong will I put my curse: and you will become a name of blessing to all the families of the earth.  Genesis 12:2 (BBE Bible in Basic English)

God made Abraham to be a blessing.  As children of Abraham, we, too, are made to be a blessing.

Today, let us bless!

FOLLOW HER!

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 26, 2012

FOLLOW HER!

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.
For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.
They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.
Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.
My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.
I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:
That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.
The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.
Proverbs 8:6-22

You will certainly be missing out on the blessings of God if you don't follow wisdom.  Wisdom leads in the way of righteousness.  In Proverbs 8 Wisdom is personified as a lady speaking excellent things.  She is understanding, and she has strength.  Will you follow Wisdom today?  If you do, she will lead you rightly and cause you to inherit substance.

Today, follow Wisdom!

SWEET FAMILY WORSHIP

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY. JUNE 25, 2012

SWEET FAMILY WORSHIP

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Psalm 119:103

Just as a family gathers around the dinner table for a scrumptious meal, let us gather around the WORD of God for sweet fellowship and nourishment.  For the WORD of God is alive and it will fill you up.  Has your spirit ever felt empty, down or depleted?  Have you ever had the rainy day blues?  That is the time to gather together around the WORD: "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him" (Psalm 34:8).

Family worship is a time for family to taste the sweetness of the Scriptures together.  It should be a sweet time of love and respect, care and gratitude.  It should be a quiet time-- full of reverence for God, allowing the sweet Holy Spirit to flow into the heart.  Let it be a time of song and praise and thanksgiving.  God wants to teach us His WORD and His Way.  God wants to minister His abundant life to us.  God wants to bless us.

Today, let us gather together for sweet family worship!

GOD'S STRENGTH MAKES YOU PERFECT

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 22, 2012

GOD'S STRENGTH MAKES YOU PERFECT

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9,10

Do you have a weakness?  Is there anything about you or what you are experiencing that you wish you could change-- or rid yourself of for good? Apostle Paul called his weakness "a thorn in the flesh."  This thorn kept him less than perfect.  He had great revelations and was a powerful teacher, but this weakness in his flesh would not go away.  Jesus told Paul to apply the strength of God to his weakness, so that the weakness could be made whole.  This is GRACE.

I know you must have a friend, or a sibling, a child, or mate whose faults you just can't help noticing.  You've discerned their weaknesses and it is getting to you.  How wonderful it is to know that we can go to God and pray for them and apply God's strength to their weakness.  Are they timid?   Apply God's boldness.  Are they unfaithful?  Apply God's faithfulness.  Are they deceitful?  Apply God's truthfulness.  Are they irresponsible?  Apply God's trustworthiness.  Are they lazy?  Apply God's diligence.  See them with God's strength working in them, building them up.  See them through eyes of GRACE.

Your friends, siblings, children, mate will soon be saying:  "Wow, I glory in my infirmities, because the power of Christ is resting upon me (The Grace of God )!"

Today, allow God's strength to make you and yours...perfect!

BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 21, 2012

BE CAREFUL FOR NOTHING

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Philippians 4:9

Together, let us agree that there is no situation that we will encounter that is outside of God's complete control.  God will sustain you, comfort you, hold you, and help you in and over your trial, temptation, and fear.  The very situation which the devil wants to use to mock your God, the LORD will use to turn the tables for His glory. Your trial will turn into a testimony of God's power and authority.

So how do you get from the trial to the testimony of the victory? First, Don't enter into the anxiety of the trial: be careful for nothing.  Instead, take every situation to God by prayer and supplication.  To make supplication is to make an earnest request to one in authority.  God is our authority so we will make earnest request to God, over and over again.  Secondly, continue to pray and make earnest request in every aspect of the trial--and give thanks. Finally, you must know one thing for sure: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose"  (Roman 8:28).
Today, let us go forth believing--careful (anxious) for nothing!

TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 20, 2012

TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?  And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Two are better than one.  Ecclesiastes clearly tells us a few reasons why two are better than one:  They have a good reward for their labor; they have someone close by to help if one falls; they can stay warm in bed together; and if ever there is a fight, the two can back  up the enemy.  Jesus declares in Matthew18:20  "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."  Jesus is in the middle of the united pair.  Jesus makes the three-fold cord that no man shall separate.

Today, let us celebrate togetherness!

CONSIDER ONE ANOTHER

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 19, 2012

CONSIDER ONE ANOTHER

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.  Hebrews 10:24

The Body of Christ, the Church, must be careful to consider one another.  To consider another is more than a casual thought, or a glimpse of regard.  To consider another is to hold someone in your thoughts, bathe them in your prayers, ponder their situation to see if there is any need.  As we consider one another we will discover ways in which we can be a blessing, compelled to good works.

Indeed, it is our Father's desire that we be clothed in good works.  Jesus tells us in the Gospel of Matthew: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).   Moreover, as we consider one another, we fulfill the call of Christ and manifest the good works He has planned for us:  "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).
What good works are awaiting you as you consider another?  What love is set to flow?  We will, no doubt, provoke others to love and good works as they see God alive and moving in us.

Today, let us consider one another!

BE WILLING TO COMMUNICATE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 18, 2012

BE WILLING TO COMMUNICATE

But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. Hebrews 13:16

To communicate is to open oneself to another; it means to share one's thoughts, feelings, resources, wisdom, ideas, time, strength  and even weakness. We can inspire another person when we communicate with them, or we can show sympathy.  When we communicate we are moving in the highest levels of relational love; we are moving in the realm of friendship.  Jesus defined friendship in this manner:  " Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you" (John 15:15).  Jesus communicated with those he considered friends.  As the body of Christ, we must be willing to move in to the highest realms of relational love; we must be willing to be friends; we must be willing to communicate-- to listen and to share.

No doubt, communication is a sacrifice of time, effort, autonomy-- but it is worth the sacrifice. How thankful I am when my first-born son calls; just hearing his voice and  listening to his thoughts and plans allows me to give thanks for the friendship we have in Christ Jesus.  And, too, the communication I share with my father is heart-warming.  I lift up my voice in praise to God for the time I have to communicate with Dad.  What a blessing from my Heavenly Father to have an open and loving relationship with my earthly father.

Today, let us be willing to communicate!

RELATIONAL LOVE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 17, 2012

RELATIONAL LOVE

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:  Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth. 2Thessalonians 1:1-3

The Christian Church is meant to be relational.  We are to pray for one another, and love is to flow from breast to breast.  We must have care and concern for our brethren, thanking God for our friends and their faith.
In this church in Thessalonica, the charity of every one for the other abounded.  What do you think this looked like?  Surely, anyone in need was ministered to with substance.  If one was hungry, they were fed.  If one was homeless, they were sheltered.  This is the obvious demonstration of charity.  But we can also minister to emotional needs by showing charity to the outcast, the lonely, the diseased, the widowed, the elderly.  Yes, the Christian Church is relational.  We must love people.  We must open our hearts and souls and homes and churches to the brethren as we dare to enter into relational love.

Today, let us love one another.

HOW BEAUTIFUL!

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 14, 2012

HOW BEAUTIFUL!

How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.
Thy navel is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins.
Thy neck is as a tower of ivory; thine eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: thy nose is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.
Thine head upon thee is like Carmel, and the hair of thine head like purple; the king is held in the galleries.
How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!
This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.
I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;
And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.
I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me. Song of Solomon 7:1-9

The church of God is designed to be beautiful, fine-- exquisite in character and in spirit.  For this to happen we must keep Jesus ever before us and be ever transformed by the renewing of our mind and the re-filling of our spirit.  We must drink deeply of the fountain of life in Jesus Christ as we are washed  with the water of the WORD. We must seek the will of God and submit to his  rule and authority.

Today, let us be beautiful!

MADE LIKE GOD

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 143, 2012

MADE LIKE GOD

But a man should not cover his head, because he is made like God and is God's glory. But woman is man's glory.  I Corinthians 11:7ERV

I have four wonderful sons and two wonderful nephews.  I desire for my family, and all of God's sons to know that they are made like God and are an image of His glory.  They are to have dominion over every living thing that moveth upon the earth, according to Genesis 1:28.  God made them  upright-- with the ability to access the wisdom and knowledge of God.
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:5  God desires for you to be His representatives in the earth.  He needs you to have a deep and abiding connection with Him.

Today, let us tell our sons just who they are in God.

PEACE BE WITH YOU

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 12, 2012

PEACE BE WITH YOU

Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
 I Peter 5:14

God desires for His children to have peace--that quiet, calm assurance that God is in control, Christ is on the throne and the Holy Spirit is at work guiding and comforting us.  The body of Christ shall have peace because no man can snatch us out of our Father's hand.  We are safe.  We are saved.  When trials come we can pray to God and watch him still the storm:  "Peace, be still,"  He will say.

Today, may peace be with you!

LET US...

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 11, 2012

LET US...

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26

God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit were together in creation, making man in God's image and likeness.  God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are still together today, creating, governing, ruling for the Glory of the Father.  Let them govern your life as you surrender everything to their control.  Let them bring you to the abundant life, the springs of living water you are promised.

Today,Let GOD take control!

LET US...

 IN THE BEGINNING…THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, June 10, 2012

LET US…

Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages. Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves. The mandrakes give a smell, and at our gates are all manner of pleasant fruits, new and old, which I have laid up for thee, O my beloved.    Song of Solomon 7: 11-13

Togetherness is so sweet, blessed, wonderful…divine.  The Church desires to be with her LORD. The LORD desires to be in communion with His Church.  “Let us go forth into the field.”  “Let us lodge in the villages.”  “Let us get up early to the vineyards.” “Let us see if the vine flourish.”

Today, let us be one!

THE LORD WILL TAKE YOU UP

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 8, 2012

THE LORD WILL TAKE YOU UP

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. Psalm 27:10

God is the one who takes us up into his eternal love and safety when even our father or mother forsake us. The LORD is dependable, steadfast, forgiving and kind.  He has eternal habitations for us to dwell in forever.  God has provided His loving Son to be our Savior and His Holy Spirit to be our comforter and guide.  The Lord will never leave us or forsake us.  The LORD loves us with an everlasting love.

Today, let us rest in the LORD's care!

COME AND DINE

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORDDAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 7, 2012

COME AND DINE
Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.
Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. John 21:11-14

And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. Revelation 19:9

Have you ever been called to dinner?  God so desires to have intimate fellowship with his children.  Through Christ Jesus we are called to come and dine.  God will nourish us and strengthen us and provide for our needs as we  feast with Him.

Today, come and dine!

THE BRIDE HATH MADE HERSELF READY

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 6, 2012

THE BRIDE HATH MADE HERSELF READY

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Revelation 19:7,8

The preparations of a bride are phenomenal.  Every detail of the wedding day is thought through and set in order.  It is true that the Church of God shall be perfectly prepared for her husband, Christ Jesus.  This preparation will be done in the Spirit, by grace alone.  For it is Jesus who gives us our garments of righteousness and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Today, let us get dressed!

FLEE THESE THINGS

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 5, 2012

FLEE THESE THINGS

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. I Timothy 6:10,11

It is time to separate from the people, thinking, cravings and direction of mammon.  For the love of mammon, the world's money system, is the root of all evil. The bible instructs us in 2 Timothy 2:4: "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

As we generously give our tithes and offerings to the house of God, we are fleeing the world's system.  As we generously support missions/outreach programs and engage in acts of service, we are defying the world's system.  As we generously extend our hand to the needy, we are destroying the world's system.  As we delight in the fervent seeking of the kingdom of God, doing on earth as it is done in heaven, we are annihilating the world's system and acknowledging God's dominion, power and rule.

Man of God, woman of God, you cannot serve God and mammon:
"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24).  Serve God by following after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.

Today, let us flee the love of money and serve God!

CHOOSE GODLINESS, NOT THE LOVE OF MONEY

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 3, 2012

CHOOSE GODLINESS, NOT THE LOVE OF MONEY

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I Timothy 6:3-12

When a man or woman is destitute of the truth of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, they are truly destitute.  They are destitute of contentment and righteousness and eternal life with God.  The corruptness within their mind causes them to have "strife over words," "envy," "strife,"evil thoughts."  In the corruptness of the mind, they think that "gain is godliness."  We are instructed to "withdraw" from such company.

What does it mean that"gain is godliness?"  Men and women of corrupt minds will pursue after a worldly lifestyle of  money and possessions, vacations and jewels, etc. thinking that the gain of these things proves their greatness.  They follow after a corrupt system of worldliness, believing they are righteous (all good).

But we are to flee these things and allow God to build us up in His Kingdom. We will find contentment in the kingdom of God and our righteousness solely in Christ Jesus.  Remember, "Godliness with contentment is great gain" (I Timothy 6:6).

So, my brother and sister, fight the good fight of faith.  Don't allow anyone, or anything, or any corrupt system of thinking, to turn you away from your love and pursuit of God: read the Bible, fellowship with believers, go to Church, worship, pray, fast, focus on the hope and treasure of heaven.

Today,  let us CHOOSE GODLINESS!

WILL YOU PREACH?

IN THE BEGINNING...THE WORD
DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TODAY, JUNE 1, 2012

WILL YOU PREACH?

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:14,15,16

Will you preach?  Will you bring good tidings of good things to your neighbor, your friends, your enemies, your community, your world?  Will you preach?  Do people know that you have something to say, something of health and well-being.  Jesus is our good news, our wealth and our salvation--we must share this good news at home and abroad:  Jesus died on the cross for my sins and yours, so that we might have the right to eternal life with God.

Today, preach!
